El jurado de la Federación Interamericana de Periodistas del Automóvil (FIPA) otorgó el reconocimiento “Auto del Año 2018” a la séptima generación del BMW Serie 5, en el marco de las actividades del NAIAS 2018 (North American International Auto Show).
La FIPA es un organismo fundado en 2001, que agrupa a periodistas especializados en el sector automotriz, a través de representantes de todo el continente americano, desde Estados Unidos hasta América del Sur, incluyendo países del Caribe. Dentro de los objetivos de sus actividades se encuentra reconocer a los actores más importantes de las industria automotriz, a través de sus premios anuales.

Características
El BMW Serie 5 a través de su séptima generación establece nuevos estándares en deportividad, liderazgo tecnológico, digitalización y servicios remotos. El sedán de BMW experimenta un dinamismo de conducción incrementado, un alto nivel de sistemas de asistencia, junto con un grado de integración a la red sin paralelo y un nuevo sistema de control innovador definen las novedades más importantes. Por otro lado, la incorporación del aluminio y aleaciones de alta resistencia, así como del concepto de diseño ligero BMW EfficientLightweight, aunado a la nueva suspensión con un centro de gravedad más bajo, y una carrocería altamente resistente a la torsión se logró reducir su peso 100 kilogramos.
También incluye la función Remote Parking, en la que puede controlarse de forma remota mediante la BMW Display Key, y maniobrarse en espacios de estacionamiento muy reducidos sin estar dentro del vehículo. Además de esto, la integración con smartphones se optimizó aún más, no sólo con las funciones de Bluetooth y carga inalámbrica, sino que es la primera vez que BMW incluye Apple CarPlay en uno de sus modelos, y es integrado de forma completamente inalámbrica por primera vez por un fabricante automotriz.
