No obstante la señora de Restrepo evitando ser alcanzada por dicho elemento, sufrió traumas en la cabeza y en una de sus extremidades inferiores que hizo necesaria la intervención médica.
El exconcejal y excandidato a la alcaldía del municipio industrial, dijo que adelantará acciones jurídicas que permitan reparar los daños causados por el incidente en el cual se salvó milagrosamente junto con su esposa Martha Cecilia Rivera.
Agregó que espera una explicación por parte de la constructora Ferrocarril Avintia, a cerca de las causas del desprendimiento del paral metálico que cayó sobre su vehículo y que estuvo a punto de causar una tragedia.

Restrepo Arenas recuerda otro episodio en el que muchos lo daban por muerto, fue el 3 de agosto de 1990, dos días después de asumir la curul como concejal de Dosquebradas. En esa oportunidad iba como copiloto en un campero Suzuki que conducía Evelio Zapata, otro dirigente dosquebradense, quien perdió el control del carro y rodaron por una pendiente del sector de Bavaria en Pereira, inconsciente y prácticamente sin signos vitales, Alvaro fue trasladado en una volqueta cargada de arena, hasta el hospital donde recuperó el sentido dos días después y revivió, como lo sigue pregonando, “gracias a la Virgen del Jordán”
