Desde el Gobierno de Pereira se impulsan proyectos de movilidad sostenible tales como el Megacable, las Megabicis y la compra de una flota de Megabús que funcionan con energía eléctrica.
El Área Metropolitana Centro Occidente, AMCO, integrada por los municipios de Pereira, Dosquebradas y La Virginia, ya cuenta con su primer inventario de emisiones de Gases de Efecto Invernadero, mediante el cual se establece la cantidad de emisiones generadas entre 2016 y 2019.
Se trata de un paso importante para seguir buscando acciones de impacto social y ambiental que ayuden a tener una ciudad más sostenible, logrado después de un trabajo en equipo de expertos técnicos de WWF Colombia apoyados por el Ministerio de Ambiente y Desarrollo Sostenible, el Instituto de Hidrología, Meteorología y Estudios Ambientales (IDEAM), el Gobierno Británico y el Gobierno de la Ciudad de la capital risaraldense.
“Pereira es la única ciudad de la región que ha avanzado en esta materia. Nuestro reto ahora es revisar cuáles con esas estrategias que debemos reforzar e implementar para seguir trabajando por el ambiente”, indicó Sandra Granada, secretaria de Desarrollo Rural de Pereira.
Aumento de emisiones
El inventario estimó las emisiones de gases de los sectores de energía y residuos de las tres localidades del AMCO, analizando además el sistema de trasporte en Pereira, Dosquebradas, La Virginia, Santa Rosa de Cabal, Viterbo y Cartago; así como de las actividades derivadas de la agricultura, forestería y otros usos del suelo.
Según el informe se evidencia una tendencia al aumento de emisiones entre 2016 y 2019. En este último año mencionado, la región generó 770.000 toneladas de emisiones de CO2 equivalentes, provenientes de: – Transporte: 47 %. – Energía estacionaria: 34 %. – Residuos: 18 %. – Agricultura, forestería y otras actividades del uso del suelo: 2 %.
El transporte
En este sector se estimaron las emisiones generadas por el transporte de carretera siendo el que genera una mayor cantidad de gases con potencial de calentamiento global en Pereira, Dosquebradas, Santa Rosa de Cabal, Cartago y Viterbo, principalmente por el uso de gasolina (54 % de las emisiones) y otros combustibles fósiles como diésel (40 %) y gas natural (6 %).
El inventario encontró además que la industria manufacturera y de la construcción generan el 38 % de las emisiones totales del sector de energía; los edificios residenciales el 37 %; y los comerciales e institucionales el 22 %.
Para José Francisco Charry Ruiz, director de cambio climático del Ministerio de Ambiente y Desarrollo Sostenible, “el inventario de Pereira es un hito que demuestra el interés de la ciudad en avanzar en la gestión frente al cambio climático”.
