En 1975 fundó en Pereira a Frisby, la marca de pollo frito apanado, más grande de Colombia.
Nació en Pereira, el 7 de Mayo de 1946, pero con raíces antioqueñas, hijo de padres emprendedores que le enseñaron y lo orientaron para que a través del tiempo se convirtiera en uno de los empresarios más reconocidos de este país.
A sus 74 años de edad, Alfredo Hoyos Mazuera partió de este mundo dejando el legado de un hombre emprendedor e innovador, un visionario que buscó oportunidades en un mercado no muy conocido a mediados de la década de los años 70, como era el negocio del pollo frito.
Desde muy joven al lado de su padre también llamado Alfredo Hoyos aprendió el negocio avícola ayudándole en las granjas, y en otras actividades como la vacunación y la recolección de huevos.
Fue un gran lector de Filosofía y Psicología e investigador de la conducta humana, enseñanzas que lo llevaron a que Frisby no fuera solo un negocio sino, un agente de transformación social.
El Instituto Técnico Dosquebradas fue una de las obras sociales dejadas por el empresario de Frisby
Alfredo Hoyos Mazuera, después de terminar sus estudios de bachillerato en Estados Unidos, regresó a Pereira, para darle vida a su primera empresa que tuvo con razón social: Importadora Avícola de Colombia, con la cual por espacio de 10 años le ofreció asistencia técnica a los avicultores del país.
Nadie lo hace como Frisby lo hace
La tradición del pollo frito apanado nació en 1977, por el ingenio de Alfredo Hoyos Mazuera y su esposa Liliana Restrepo, quienes inicialmente montaron una pizzería en la esquina de la calle 25 con carrera 7 de la capital risaraldense, pero rápidamente el pollo se convirtió en su producto insignia, que le dio gran reconocimiento en el país, reforzado con su típico slogan de “Nadie lo hace como Frisby lo hace”.
Era la primera vez que en Colombia se ofrecía el pollo preparado de esta manera, por lo que no tardó en convertirse en el producto más pedido por los clientes y en el ícono de ventas de la naciente cadena de restaurantes. En el año de 1978 se inició la apertura de nuevos puntos en diferentes ciudades del Eje Cafetero. Para 1987 se abrieron los primeros locales en Bogotá y en 1990 en Medellín.
Actualmente Frisby cuenta con más de 200 puntos de venta en 50 cabeceras municipales, siendo así una de las cadenas con mayor cobertura en el territorio nacional. Frisby tiene 3,500 colaboradores que se encargan de mantener en cada entrega las premisas de sabor, servicio y calidad.
